About - Material Art

Welcome to Material Art and me, Jane.

So how and where did all this start?...Well, let me tell you...I never actually set out to sell fabrics!

It all began when a friend asked me to make 100 napkins for her birthday party in one week. Only on the odd occasion did I sew, but I took up the challenge anyway. By the end of a very long and tiring week, I was mighty fine at making napkins and surprisingly became inspired to sew more.

I decided to start by making myself some Christmas napkins and cushions. I went in search of contemporary & modern Christmas fabric, but seriously struggled to find what I wanted... no I didn't want children's designs, neither did I want traditional old fashioned patterns. I didn't want thin lifeless material, I wanted quality. To get what I wanted, I had to delve deeper into the realms of the material world and suddenly my eyes were opened to the Art of fabrics. The colours and designs I came across were Art in themselves and I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Sewing was put to one side as a new passion for buying fabrics was formed & Material Art was born.

I have been selling on eBay for the last 3 years and my business has grown and grown. eBay has been great for me and I still continue to sell there and it is such a shame that people suddenly don't take you seriously when you say you have an eBay shop.

Material Art is all about quality and I pride myself in not stocking any poor quality fabrics. My fabrics are also sought after and I keep up to date with what's happening in the interior world and what's currently and about to start trending.

I sell fabrics for quilting and crafting through to interior fabrics and thick woven upholstery fabric.

Oh, and customer service! Providing good customer service is really important to me too. It might sound cliché and everyone says they provide good customer service, but in some cases that's just not true. Having had problems myself in the past as a customer and receiving terrible support it's something that I just abide by. Empathy and honesty is crucial and you will never be left feeling disappointed with the customer service you receive from me.

I should also take this opportunity to say thanks to my husband Warren, who is very much a part of this and if it wasn't for his support I would not have this wonderful job! My sister Rachel, a professional photographer who painstakingly takes most of my photos. My dear friend Kim, whom if it wasn't for our weekly 'We can build successful businesses' I wouldn't be here. And, not forgetting Barbara... 'Thank you for allowing me to take some time off occasionally'!

I love life (yes very corny... but true and should be celebrated!), I meditate daily, enjoy yoga and tennis. I'm an enormous animal lover with a strict 'No kill' policy... even those pesky annoying flies are allowed to live! I try to eat as healthy as possible and am grateful and thankful on a daily basis... yes even on those 'bad' days!

Sending much love to everyone, thanks for reading and remember 'Believe in yourself'
